Uganda is a country in which the battle against AIDS and the spread of HIV is a success, but one cannot let down one's guard: today the situation in the country is the following as estimated by UNAIDS at the end of '99:
The procentage of spread of the infection between adults is 8,3%
In 1982 the Ugandan doctors ascertained the main instances of AIDS in Uganda: they occur on the banks of Lake Victoria in the south of the country, in the same district as Nkoni: Rakai.
4 yars later, in 1986, the Health Minister, guided by Museveni's strong leadership, started an important Control Programme for AIDS: Uganda initiated her struggle against the plague of the century. In 1992 the infection arrived, in the hardest hit areas, at 30%: almost one person in three were infected.
The Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) estimated in June 2001 that counting from when the infection first broke out, the terrible consequences have been the following:
